TRN Group is a successful NSW-based civil engineering and haulage company that has been relying on Toyo’s range of truck tyres for over 20 years.
The family-run business offers equipment hire, earthmoving, quarrying and haulage services to clients for projects of any size.
Starting out with just two trucks in 1966, TRN has spent nearly 50 years building a tradition of personalised service with a large fleet of high-specification vehicles and equipment.
Using Toyo’s M144, M605 and M122 tyres for steer, drive and axle positions on a range of heavy vehicles, TRN has worked collaboratively with Toyo during their long relationship to identify the most effective tyre solution for their applications.
Truck workshop manager Trent Fordham maintains TRN’s fleet of around 100 trucks, ranging from prime movers to water trucks and almost everything in between.
“Toyo tyres are our tyre of choice. They are fitted to the majority of our trucks,” Trent says.

“For an all-round good wearing, well priced tyre, we love them. The quality is up to scratch and they get the job done.”
Trucks play a critical support role to TRN’s civil engineering business by carting materials in and out of job sites, plants and quarries. TRN Group moves in excess of one million tonnes of raw material each year.
TRN’s haulage trucks run six days a week in a range of situations.
“An average for our haulage equipment would be around 300,000 kilometres a year. Some are doing highway work, some local work – always in varied weather conditions and on a range of surfaces.”
Toyo has worked hard to ensure TRN has a tyre solution best matched to their applications.
“We’ve worked with Toyo’s technical manager for a very long time,” Trent says.
“He has been there for us all along. He was instrumental in getting the Toyo range of tyres Performance Based Standards (PBS) approved for us, in line with the majority of our fleet. They got it done.
“After discontinuing the M605 they brought it back for us as it suited our application so perfectly,” he adds.
Toyo helps TRN keep its costs down and deliver reliability and certainty to the business, which TRN passes on to its customers.
“We worked out that Toyos are one of the best cents-per-kilometre tyres, and we have done a lot of testing of other brands.
“They are good wearing and really reliable tyre,” Trent says.
Cost is far from TRN’s sole factor in selecting a tyre supplier. With TRN’s trucks required to spend around a fifth of their time off-road, resistance to tough conditions is essential.
“Our tyres cop a hard time. They are 80 per cent on road and 20 per cent off-road when going into job sites and quarries where there is a lot of potential for stone bruising, chipping, cutting and general off-road damage.”
Proprietary manufacturing technologies mean Toyos very rarely experience balance issues, and extremely strong casings make the axle tyres well suited for recapping.
“We very rarely have any balance issues and the cases are strong and recap really well,” Trent says.
In a business where cost savings and performance pragmatism reign supreme, Toyo has stood the test of time at TRN.
“The Toyos withstand everything we throw at them. They are a good all-round reliable tyre; that’s why we are still with them.”
