The Trek4Kidz charity drive has raised $220,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, with the cheque being presented to the charity at the John Hunter Hospital on Monday 28 September.

With the support of Toyo Tires, Tyrepower Port Macquarie owner Gordon Bain and part-time tyre fitter David Curren joined 34 other vehicles for the 2015 Trek4Kidz ‘Fossickers Drive’ for 10 days in late August, completing the trek in a modified Ford Falcon fitted with Toyo Open Country A/TII tyres.

Starlight Foundation CEO Louise Baxter thanked all involved.

“Starlight is absolutely thrilled that in their 19th year Trek4Kids raised $220,000 which will grant more than 30 life changing Starlight Wishes and support seriously ill kids and their families in hospitals in NSW,” she said.

“Trek4Kidz goes from strength to strength each year and their continued support of Starlight is truly inspiring.

“On behalf of everyone at Starlight, a huge thank you to Trek4Kidz for their continued support and commitment to helping sick kids and their families when they need it the most.”

Mr Bain was also pleased with the result.

“It’s a great feeling to give something back and an even better one to smash the target we set prior to setting out,” he said.

Trek4Kidz is an annual week-long event where a group explores different regional areas of the Australian countryside by car.

Participants create awareness and raise funds along the way for The Starlight Children’s Foundation’s mission to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families.

Since its inception the trek has visited more than 300 towns and 35 schools while generating over $1,045,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

“We completed six separate treks each day; three in the morning and three in the afternoon. They would range from 50 kilometres to upwards of 100 kilometres over tar, gravel, mud, you name it,” Mr Bain said.

“We started in Mudgee and travelled via Temora, Swan Hill, Bendigo, Beechworth, Yass and Bathurst. About 70 participants were involved.

“We intend to do it all again next year, and based on the great result we achieved for the Starlight Foundation we are hoping we can count on Toyo’s involvement again.”
