For nearly a decade, Justin and Bec Lorrimer and their three kids have been committed to exploring every square inch of Australia. Their sense of adventure knows no bounds, and by sharing their travels online they’ve amassed a following of over 600,000 people on social media, and done probably as many kilometers driving on and off Australian roads!
They’ve been long-time Toyo Tyres advocates, and after helping us launch the Open Country A/T III into Australia in 2022, the Lorrimers debuted their 300 Series wearing Open Country R/T in 2023.
They’re embarking on a secret new project shortly, and while details around their new tow rig remain scarce we wanted to chat to them about their time on Open Country tyres, and the amazing parts of the country their tyres have taken them.
“Since 2022 we must have done over 50,000km on the Open Country A/T III and we’ve had no dramas,” begins Justin. “They’re wearing nice and evenly and they’re lovely and quiet when we’re doing our on-road driving. We don’t do a lot of hardcore 4x4 but the 200 Series with the loaded van is a very heavy set up and that can really test an all-terrain on the bush tracks or the beach, but the Open Country A/T III has performed really well,” explains Justin of his impressions of the tyre two years on from fitting them.
Justin is quick to point out that his tyre maintenance routine is more rigorous than most, but it’s helping him extract the most out of his tyres.
“I’m a mechanic by trade and I’ve always worked on my own cars. I rotate the tyres every 10,000km when I do my oil change. I like to get the most out of the parts I buy, and the simple act of regularly rotating the tyres is definitely increasing their life.”
As for the Open Country R/T on the 300 Series, Justin is quick to point out that the vehicle was built with some more intense off-roading in mind.
“All we’ve ever had were all-terrains and when we built the 300 Series we thought we might use it to tackle some tougher tracks. We didn’t know what to expect with the Open Country R/T as it's a more serious tyre than we’ve used before with a more aggressive tread pattern, but for a rugged tyre they’re nice and quiet and easy to drive on!”
The family’s YouTube channel is a source of their focus lately, and a convenient way for them to share their travels. “We got serious about it in 2019 and we plan to create a video about each trip we go on, or event we go to,” says Justin. “We don’t look too deep into it or try and game the algorithms because then it’ll feel too much like a job, and the reality is whether it’s YouTube or our traveling, we want to keep the love for what we’re doing.”
