Boe, Kim and the team at Outback Cleanups Australia (OCA) are literally changing the landscape in the most impactful way, dedicating themselves to reversing the negative impact humans are having on the Australian Outback.
Since their inception, they’ve removed 69 tons of rubbish, with 20 tons of that coming out in 2022 alone, and they’ve got their sights firmly fixed on topping that number in 2023!
“Our goal is 30,000kg in 2023. We really need to scale things up to be in with a fighting chance!” begins Boe Langford, the passionate Founder of OCA.
To date, OCA has existed as a registered Not For Profit Charity, but Boe is committed to achieving DGR status in 2023 which will see them able to receive tax deductible donations - something Boe is hoping will accelerate their fundraising.
The fact that OCA have been able to achieve all that they have being largely self-funded is a testament to their commitment to the cause, with Boe and Kim using plenty of their personal finances to help purchase the vehicles that currently fill out the fleet, including their iconic Toyota Troop Carrier ‘Boomy’, their recently-completed trailer and their boat for marine rubbish removal.
We’re proud to assist the OCA efforts by supplying them with Open Country M/T tyres for the whole fleet.
“We debuted the trailer at the Adelaide 4x4 Show and then took off back to the west coast via the Cape Le Grand National Park, We aired the Open Country M/T right down and had them happily cruising along the beach - we removed around 3,000kg of rubbish from that campaign,” admits Boe, but poor Boomy is starting to show signs of wear.
“With 550,000km on the clock the Troopy is starting to fatigue so we’re looking at adding a larger vehicle to the fleet to replace it, while we repair the damage,” he says, highlighting the importance of donations at this time. For more information on how you can support OCA, visit their website.
One of their key activations this year will be heading along to the Finke Desert Race, to assist with post-event clean up. “We’re lovers of motorsport and Finke generates a bit of rubbish from spectators, so we want to help make it sustainable and clean up afterwards,” says Boe.
