As MOTOR Magazine’s Hot Tuner Challenge enters its fourth consecutive year, Toyo Tires will be headlining the competition.
Targeting high performance car enthusiasts, the event will attract at least 30 of Australia’s premier after-market tuning workshops to produce the ultimate legal and reliable road missile.
MOTOR Magazine Editor, Andrew MacLean, officially announced the partnership with Toyo Tires today. “I’d like to welcome Toyo Tires as our new naming rights partner for the event,” he said. “The Toyo brand is most recognised for its performance and reputation amongst car enthusiasts, and its involvement in Hot Tuner provides numerous benefits to us and participants in the event.
The competition will take place over two days - August 16 and 17 - at the Sydney Motorsport Park and competitors will gain points across the following categories:
- ACCELERATION: 0-100km/h and 0-400m
- BRAKING: 100-0km/h; time, distance and peak G-Force
- POWER: Dyno testing for peak power and torque – Dyno supplied by Mainline
- TIGHT LAP: Eastern Creek skid pan; measuring overall time, corner speeds and V-Max
- FAST LAP: Sydney Motorsport Park Circuit; measuring overall time, corner speeds and V-Max
Points will be awarded for each test and calculated to determine an overall winner, therefore crowning the most outstanding all-round vehicle and tuner the winner of Toyo Tires Hot Tuner Challenge 2012.
Toyo Tires’ marketing manager, José Angeles, says the competition gives Toyo the opportunity to showcase its range of high performance tyres.
“Toyo constantly monitors the performance of our products in the marketplace and the Hot Tuner Challenge will allow our tyres to be proven under a variety of performance tests and conditions,” he said.
“We’ve been a regular contender in MOTOR’s annual tyre test, and the performance we glean from our involvement in Hot Tuner combined with the opportunity to work closely with some of Australia’s best workshops will be very valuable to us.
“This year’s field promises to be more intense than ever before and will feature motoring’s best, including Ford, Holden, VW, Porsche, BMW, Subaru and Nissan.
“We’ll have rare access to a stable of late model high performance vehicles to further test our range of PROXES race and road spec performance tyres locally,” Mr Angeles added.
And it seems tuners will need little convincing to use Toyo Tires in the competition.
Jim Ghelis, from Tunehouse, is one of this year’s contenders. He’s spent the past 27 years tuning cars and is entering the Hot Tuner Challenge for the fourth time.
“Last year our clients chose to run Toyo’s semi-slick PROXES R888’s,” he said.
“They were the researching type and before the event the Toyo’s had all the right specs on paper.”
“On the day they more than did their job and we picked up a win.”
“With any luck we will be running Toyo’s again.”
The Toyo team are eagerly awaiting this year’s event, says Angeles.
“We’re really pleased to be partnering with MOTOR Magazine and look forward to sharing in all of the thrills and excitement on the 16th and 17th of August,” he said.
