North Queensland is without a doubt the country’s playground, boasting a limitless number of off-road destinations for enthusiasts to explore. Shane Johnston is one such enthusiast, and has spent the last five years exploring the region and making memories with his young family atop a set of Open Country A/T II tyres with over 125,000km worth of stories to tell!
“Before the Colorado I had an SS Commodore that had Proxes Sport on it, so I was familiar with the Toyo Tires name and their reputation. To me, being a Japanese brand meant quality,” begins Shane, a Baker by trade.
A set of Open Country A/T II tyres in 265/70R17 were fitted to his new Holden Colorado, and Shane put them to the test around the local region.
“The Colorado was my first 4x4, and my first time driving off-road was on the Open Country A/T IIs. I was really surprised by the capability of the tyres, and it gave me so much more confidence in a vehicle I was still learning about,” adds Shane.
“We’ve done some highway driving, a fair bit of off-roading including on the beach and we’ve usually got the boat in tow,” he explains, making the Open Country A/T II’s mileage all the more impressive.
Shane credits the tyres’ outstanding service life with regular maintenance, which allowed him to squeeze amazing value out of the tyres without sacrificing tyre performance or safety.
“I’m a passionate car enthusiast and in my younger days I always wanted to be a mechanic, so I was always looking over the shoulder of the older tradesman and taking in their advice. You’ll get the best results from your gear when you look after it correctly, so we book the Colorado in every 10,000km for a balance, rotation and alignment and that’s how we’ve gotten such great mileage,” says Shane in closing.
