Specialising in steel cartage for multinational companies, trucks cart material including finished products, bulk coils and scrap, and are loaded to their maximum weights at all times.
Dedicated to continuous impr Daryl Dickenson Transport relies on Toyo truck tyres to satisfy the drive to perform for customers.
Owner Daryl Dickenson made the decision to switch from the company’s incumbent tyre supplier to Toyo four years ago.
“We were having issues with edge run-off with the tyres we were using, so we decided to investigate another supplier,” says Dickenson.
“With 35 trucks and 44 trailers, we have a lot of rubber on the ground.”
Dickenson’s fleet clocks millions of kilometres a year with weights carted well into the hundreds of thousands of tonnes.
“The secret to tyres is maintenance, rotation and pressure,” says Dickenson. “We get great back-up from our tyre fitter and Toyo dealer and any technical issues go through to Toyo’s support team.”
With its reputation at stake, the dependability of the fleet’s tyres is essential.
“Reliability and cost-effectiveness are how we judge a tyre’s value,” says Dickenson. “I could count the number of tyre failures we’ve had over four years on one hand, and I would probably have a few spare fingers.”
Toyo’s TBR range has also helped Dickenson Transport to lower its tyre costs significantly.
“Since going with Toyo our CPK has dropped. Our tyre bill has remained the same over the four-year period we have been with Toyo, but we have nearly doubled the size of our fleet. It’s a huge saving,” Dickenson says.
“The M144A wears flatter. You get more even wear and you get a longer tyre life. They are great steer tyres. We have no complaints at all and the drivers like them.
“We are also happy with our drive tyre, the M627. We pull road trains and the performance and reliability we get out of them is fantastic.
“The Toyo M149Z we use on our trailers is also great for recapping, which we do for our local trucks.”
Daryl Dickenson is glad he made the switch to Toyo.
“I’m a bit conservative when it comes to change, but I was convinced to try Toyo and we haven’t looked back since.”
