Australia has the highest rate of prostate cancer in the developed world, and one in two Australian men will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. The most common cancers causing death in men are lung, prostate, bowel, melanoma and testicular cancer.
Blue September is a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to the fight against those cancers affecting Australian men.
Blue September conducts fundraising for cancer research, as well as targeting men of all ages with the message that being proactive about their health could be the difference between life and death.
The tyre industry is dominated by men. When it comes to health, these men often have an old-school mentality; that is, they don’t talk about their health, they don’t pay attention to changes in their bodies and they don’t seek early intervention or diagnosis. These are the men who are unnecessarily suffering through and losing their battles with cancer.
There is no reason why that needs to be the case, and with further research and early diagnosis, many of the cancers specifically affecting men are totally survivable.
These are the men who Blue September helps most. In modern Australia “she’ll be right” is the wrong attitude to have when it comes to health.
Every year since 2012, Toyo Tires has supported Blue September. Toyo does this through the sale of wristbands throughout the month of September at participating Toyo resellers, including Tyrepower, Tyreright and a number of independents. The wristbands feature a section where the wearer is encouraged to write the name of a person in their lives who has battled with or lost their life to cancer, or inspired them to raise cancer awareness among men.
